Jyväskylä Art Museum is regional art museum of Central Finland. The mission of the museum is to show and collect visual art from Central Finland, Finnish and international printmaking and photography as well as other national and international artwork complementary to museum’s collections. One of the museum's focus points is art and museum education.

Annu Vertanen – Cellular Matrix
Annu Vertanen’s exhibition showcases the work of an innovator in printmaking throughout her long career. Vertanen is known for her large-sized and layered woodcuts, through which she has expanded the traditional notion of printmaking.

Rental of allotment garden

The city of Jyväskylä has 428 allotment plots in seven different areas. Plots are usually 100 m2 in size. The plots are of different sizes, and their prices depend on the size and services.

Novice allotment gardener – rent your own city allotment now, in the spring

The allotment garden plots have been opened to rent for new gardeners. Rental begins on 11 April at 10 a.m.

Marketplace spots

Market trade is carried out in several locations in the City. Saleable products include vegetables, berries, fish, pastries and handicrafts.

The Market Square sales spots, the second-hand sales spots on Sepänaukio Square and Christmas tree sales spots are subject to a price specified annually by the City, but the spots at other sales locations do not involve a fee.

Universities

Jyväskylä is a prominent school and university city. The University of Jyväskylä and the JAMK University of Applied Sciences are among the most popular higher education institutions in Finland.

The University of Jyväskylä is home to Finland's first Faculty of Information Technology and the only Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, a strong Faculty of Natural Sciences and a highly extensive range of study programmes in Humanities, Economics and Social Sciences.

Basic education

The Education Services of the City of Jyväskylä are responsible for basic education. Basic education (comprehensive school) is free of charge all-round education.

Every child residing permanently in Finland is obliged to attend comprehensive school. Comprehensive school takes nine years and is intended for children/teenagers from 7 to 16 years of age. This also applies to immigrant children/teenagers residing permanently in Finland.

Children's day-care and pre-school education

In Finland every child under school age (seven) is entitled to a place in day-care run by the municipality. The goal of the day-care services in Jyväskylä is to ensure that all children have the opportunity for a good childhood and meaningful development. The early education services aim at supporting balanced growth, development and learning as well as promoting the personal well-being of all children.
