The completion of the parking garage P-Paraati construction, such as the underground utility engineering transfers, began last August. In January, construction of the actual parking garage started.

Jyväskylä city council elected Timo Koivisto for another term as the mayor of Jyväskylä. Koivisto received 59 out of 67 votes in the official election.

Independence Day, 6 December 2022, will be celebrated in Jyväskylä with a program organized by the City of Jyväskylä, Jyväskylä Garrison, and Jyväskylä Parish.

In Autumn 2022, the Japanese Embassy in Finland will celebrate the Finland-Japan friendship year with various events. The events will take place from 31.10 to 06.11.2022, where you can get to know Japanese culture, hobbies, and people. Participating in public events are free-of-charge unless previously notified.

For the first time in 34 years, Jyväskylä will host a men’s basketball national team game. Finland’s national team, Susijengi, faces Ukraine at LähiTapiola Areena on Thursday, August 18, as they gear up for EuroBasket 2022. This will also be the first national team game for Lauri Markkanen, the premier star of Finnish basketball, in his hometown.
