The City of Jyväskylä’s Pupil and student support services are designed to promote health, welfare and learning across our schools and other educational establishments. They are available both on a direct one-on-one basis but also offered in communal and group settings. The content of the services is set out in the curriculum, and all staff, including teachers, school psychologists, student welfare advisors, school nurses and school doctors, contribute to their delivery.
Jälkkäri is a guided and versatile morning and afternoon activity in Jyväskylä. Jälkkäri is open to pupils in grades 1 and 2 as well as pupils in grades 3–5, who have received a decision on special support. Morning and afternoon activities are organised for more than 4 hours on weekdays, mainly between 12.00–17.00.
The task of the entire school staff is, in co-operation with the student's guardians, to support the pupil's school attendance, learning, as well as positive growth and development. If the student needs support, the student is provided with remedial education in his or her own class, individually with a remedial education teacher, in small groups, or remedial education groups. Depending on students’ needs, this support may be provided as enhanced support based on an individual learning plan, or full time special education.
