The number of residents and businesses in Jyväskylä is increasing rapidly. Increase in the number of inhabitants is one of the highest among larger cities in Finland. Jyväskylä is not only a popular place to study, but also an attractive option for relocation and a supporting platform for bold ideas.

Jyväskylä on the move

Jyväskylä is called the Capital of Sport in Finland.  No surprise as sports and wellbeing are close to a passion in Jyväskylä.  In a compact city, almost everything is but a walking distance or a bike ride away. Sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice be it world-class sports or physical exercise.

A comfortably-sized city of approximately 145,000 inhabitants is a home for happy people. Studies prove Jyväskylä to be an excellent place for bringing up children. With its high-quality residential areas and first-rate services, Jyväskylä is an attractive hometown for people of all ages.

The urban beat meets nature in Jyväskylä making a unique combination.  Magnificent nature, a wide variety of sports and other recreational opportunities and an active cultural life are available for residents and visitors alike.

Jyväskylä warmly welcomes immigrants

Students arriving in the city as immigrants, spouses moving to Finland, work-related immigrants and those who come to Finland for humanitarian reasons are all welcome. As a city, we work to better organise services and receive immigrants so that they can get work, study for a degree, avail training opportunities and find a home.

The population with an immigrant background increases from year to year. Yearly, some 600 people immigrates to Jyväskylä, and 400 emigrates from the country. 

In 2021, there were a total of 8052 foreign nationals in Jyväskylä, which is 5,6% of the total population. Largest groups of foreign nationals

The map covers the whole area of the City of Jyväskylä and includes a list of street names. A printed guide can be purchased for 10 euros at Jyväskylä-info (os. Asemakatu 7) or Service Point Hannikainen (os. Hannikaisenkatu 17). At the Service Point Hannikainen can only be paid by invoice. You can also obtain a guide map through an electronic subscription service.
