The Museum of Central Finland for families with children

The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Central Finland offers also the little ones in the family a chance to explore Central Finland. In the exhibition one can create one’s own cave painting using modern technology, meet a mythical bear, and immerse oneself in old-time life by examining objects and listening to stories. And how would it feel to step into a smoke sauna, stop by a market, sit down at an elementary school desk or jump behind the wheel of a rally car? And what does a trip, led by young Alvar Aalto, to Jyväskylä of more than a hundred years ago look like?

Hiking

Jyväskylä has a number of marked nature trails with information boards in a variety of terrains and suitable for hikers of different skill levels. In addition, the city has bird towers situated by a number of different bodies of water. From them one can spot even some rarer birds, particularly during the springtime.

The large areas of unbroken forest and varying terrain offer excellent possibilities for hiking and nature experiences. There are also some fine nature spots right by the centre which are worth a visit.
