Body

The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Central Finland offers also the little ones in the family a chance to explore Central Finland. In the exhibition one can create one’s own cave painting using modern technology, meet a mythical bear, and immerse oneself in old-time life by examining objects and listening to stories. And how would it feel to step into a smoke sauna, stop by a market, sit down at an elementary school desk or jump behind the wheel of a rally car? And what does a trip, led by young Alvar Aalto, to Jyväskylä of more than a hundred years ago look like?

It is possible to get to know the Exploring Central Finland exhibition with the help of fun activity sheets. You can ask for one at the museum’s information desk.

Activity Corner Nappula

Located on the second floor of the museum, the Activity Corner Nappula offers many kinds of things to do while visiting the exhibitions. One can, for instance, play old-time games, play with old toys, try on old-style clothes, and do handicrafts. In Nappula, there are also often guided workshops which are suitable for the whole family.

Regional bunny Wolmar

Wolmar, the mascot of the Museum of Central Finland, guides the little ones of the family to the secrets of Central Finland. Wolmar is a mountain hare whish is the regional animal of Central Finland. Wolmar has been named after doctor Wolmar Schildt who actively promoted Central Finland and Jyväskylä in the 1800s. He was, for instance, instrumental in the establishment of Finland's first Finnish-language schools in Jyväskylä.

Can you find Wolmar’s very own comic hidden in a dusky side passage of the museum. Wolmar is also present at certain events – please follow the museum’s website!
