HarrastusLaturi (Hobbies for children and youth!) gathers free and low-threshold hobbies for different ages. There are about 250 diverse hobby groups available every week around Jyväskylä. Various sports as well as art and cultural hobbies.

What does a low-threshold hobby mean?

A low-threshold hobby means that starting a hobby can be easy:

Participation does not require previous experience or own equipment. There may be a few exceptions, but they are explained immediately in the information of the hobby group.

Hobbies are organized around Jyväskylä so that traveling is not an obstacle. For example, the easiest thing for many schoolchildren is to stay at their own school and do something right after the school day.

As a rule, hobby groups meet once a week, which means there is time for more hobbies or other free time.

For whom are the hobbies planned?

Hobbies are for everyone. The participant might be a beginner or already active in a hobby.

Who guides the hobbies?

Hobbies are guided by different instructors, for example, staff of youth facilities and schools, physical education instructors, instructors of sports clubs, and other associations.

Responsible instructors are over 18 years old.

Where are the hobbies located?

Many of the hobbies are operating in the facilities of the City of Jyväskylä, for example, schools, sports facilities, and youth facilities. You may also have hobbies elsewhere in Jyväskylä. Activities organized at the premises of associations and companies are also free of charge for participants.

Are the participants insured?

The City of Jyväskylä's group accident insurance is valid for all hobby activities organized by the city, also while transporting, even though the city has not organized the transportation. All hobbies listed in HarrastusLaturi are organized by the City of Jyväskylä.

How is the activity financed?

In addition to the city of Jyväskylä's funding, there are two state fundings for the organization of hobbies: a grant for the development of school club activities from the Board of Education and a special grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture Model of Hobbies in Finland.
