LystiKylä festival
Welcome to LystiKylä 7.-9.6.2024
LystiKylä Festival is a children’s festival held at Jyväskylä from June 7th to June 9th. The festival features plenty of fun events, shows, movie screenings, workshops, and stuff to do for families and children to enjoy. This is the second year the festival is organized, and this year’s theme is music! Come and join the fun with the whole family at LystiKylä!
You can get tickets for specific events at: verkkokauppa.jyvaskyla.fi (only in Finnish)
There’s a free entry to the events with entrance fees for babies under the age of 1. Assistants of people with an EU Disability Card also have free entry for events. You can get an assistant’s ticket from the ticket store by adding a free assistant’s ticket (Avustajalippu) to your online store order at the shopping cart page (ostoskori) before purchasing a ticket.

Summery crafts at Sparvin's House

At the Sparvin house’s workshop space you can craft all kinds of summery flowers, butterflies, and dragonflies from recycled materials. The workshop is self-guided, and you can participate in it according to your own schedule. While you’re visiting the Old Courtyard, stop by the Coppersmith’s house next door to get a glimpse of the family life in the old times by picture orienteering.
Note: There is no unobstructed access to Museum. The workshop is suitable for all ages. Free entry!
Aalto2 museum center: Footsteps of Animals -workshop

Welcome to explore the Museum of Central Finland’s “Exploring Central Finland” exhibition in the footsteps of animals! At the beginning of the workshop, we go around the exhibition looking for different animals and wondering how the animals might move. You also get to hear funny stories about life in the past in Central Finland. At the end of the tour, we will go to the children’s activity corner Nappula, where you can craft your own animal figure from crafting dough. You can also make a nest or enclosure for your crafted animal. Free entry!

The Bunny and the Miraculous Cloud

Puppet Theatre Sampo presents a sweet story about a bunny and a miraculous cloud. Inspired by the book The Bunny and the Egg by Margaret Wise Brown, the dramatized play features cute little animal puppets, rhymes, songs and live music.
The show is suitable for all ages, especially the youngest in the family. Duration 30 minutes. Cafe Kisko is open.

Avain hukassa -musical circus (Lost key)

In a musical circus show about the search of a lost key, we visit many different homes in a village and meet the neighbours. Every home is unique and so are their inhabitants.
The show is based on the book of the same name written and illustrated by Sanna Mander. The show features acoustic and electronic music, spinning hoops, bouncing balls, enchanting soap bubbles, and sometimes even balancing on glass bottles. The book's illustrations come to life on the background canvas. The musical circus Avain hukassa won the best small ensemble for audiences -prize at the 2023 YAMawards in Brazil.

Craft Museum of Finland

If you visit the Craft Museum of Finland during the LystiKylä festival, you have a chance to acquire a PäkäPass (Päkäpassi) by following a story trail and solving fun tasks or join a tour to play as a Craft Detective. After the tours you can craft your own Päkä the Sheep by using cardboard, yarn, glue, and sticks! You can get instructions and a list of hints for the tours from the museum’s info desk.
The tours and workshops are included in the museums entrance fee. Free entry for under 18-year-olds. Museum Card works as a payment method.
Jyväskylä Art Museum

The main exhibition is by last year’s young artist of the year Eetu Huhtala who twists familiar everyday objects in his art. The downstairs gallery contains an exhibition called In the Current curated by artist Anna Ruth and features works from artist Cécile Bicler, Samuel Lehikoinen, Anna Ting-Möller and Vidha Saumya.
In the Art Space Ilmiö, you can learn about the themes of the exhibitions by play in a compilation called Distorted Everyday Life which is designed by art and museology students from the University of Jyväskylä. Free entry on the festival weekend.
Onni on olla exhibition 7.6.-13.7.2024

Onni on olla exhibition and playroom is based on the popular picturebook series Onni by Sanna Pellicioni. The playful worlds of the books come to life in the exhibition in which the visitors walk on moss carpets made of wool, get to play in Onnis kitchen, and sail on his cardboard ship!

Contemporary Baby Dance

Dance session for a baby and their parent -workshop

This workshop is for people who teach dance and other creative activities for 3-12-month-old babies. The goal of the workshop is to increase the understanding of the importance of early interaction and the development of a baby’s motor skills, as well as how to practice them in everyday situations and guided classes. Teacher: Teija Häyrynen.

Traveling in Time -self-guided tour

Hop on a time travel journey to 150 years in the past to the seminars model school. On the self-guided tour for the whole family, you will move from checkpoint to checkpoint and get to practice the alphabet on a writing slate and figure out what is in Uno Cygnaeus’ suitcase. Lasten-SET – A stage for children

Lasten-SET is a performing arts event for children organized by Keskellä collective. Children get to create and perform their own charming shows for an audience. After the main event there’s a dance jam with some groovy music to dance to. Event is hosted by dance artists Rebecca Laube-Pohto and Mimmi Salo.

Trolls World Tour -movie screening (K7)

With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends, set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who's looking to upstage them all. Sweet City – Candy Architecture workshop

Take part in urban environment planning project by building a gravity defying apartment building, a sweet little cottage or a delicious library from candy! Gain inspiration from Alvar Aalto’s architectural design and make something colourful and tasty according to your own vision. And of course, you get to taste the building materials afterwards. You can join the Sweet City workshop at any point during the opening hours mentioned above and build as long as you please.

Kielinuppu concert

Kielinuppu produces songs that support the learning of the Finnish language. The songs with instructional videos have been published on YouTube and are easily accessible. The name "Kielinuppu" refers to the emerging language skills that will later blossom. The songs are especially helpful for the youngest members of the family, children with an immigrant or multilingual background, and children with challenges in language development. The facility has a childcare room and a place for baby strollers. Cafe Kisko is open. There are no public parking spaces at Veturitallit. The nearest parking area is the Matkakeskus parking garage. There’s no guidance for making lyrics but the participants can make their own if they please. After the workshop you will get to play music at the Graffiti workshop.
There’s room for 8 participants per workshop. The workshop doesn’t require former experience in making beats and you can bring your own music player with you. Tutors/instructors: Sauli Pulkkinen and Joni Huikko.

Graffiti workshop

The musical written, directed, and performed by the KolmeKuutoset choir from Jyväskylä is exciting and warm-hearted story about friendship and diversity. Come see the magic forest with mushroom houses and meet fairies, living strawberries and other creatures!

Investigator Mouse’s self-guided adventure at Villa Rana

Did you know that there’s an Investigator Mouse belonging to the garden dormouse species living in Villa Rana? You can find clues of his investigations by following a map you can find at the restaurant Villa Rana. Peek behind Investigator Mouses secret door and go grab a souvenir of your adventure from the restaurant. You can embark on the adventure whenever the Restaurant is open. On the festival weekend Restaurant Villa Rana is open 11.00-19.00 on Saturday the 8th and 12.00-15.30 on Sunday the 9th.
Soili and Piia’s Music Sessions for Babies

Feel the beat and the rhythm with your baby!
The music session lasts for 30 minutes, and you can try the different instruments and take pictures afterwards for another 10 minutes. The session is designed for babies who have not learned to walk yet. The performers are Soili Perkiö and Piia Säpyskä. You might know Soili Perkiö from children’s show Pikku Kakkonen, and more specifically from Musarullaa, Muista laulaa and Rytmireissu. She also teaches future Music Educators at Sibelius Academy. Piia Säpyskä is a Music Educator by trade and works as a Coordinator of Children’s Culture in Pieksämäki.

There is a separate play area for older siblings in the next room with supervision by school assistants from Jyväskylä. The facility has a childcare room and a place for baby strollers. Circus and Bicycle Tuning

TT-1000 Circus Performance at 11.00 (duration 30 min.)
The future of street circus is here! TT-1000 takes the audience to another dimension with an act that contains acrobatic jumps, bouncing objects and just a tad of colourful craziness! Duo Color Express is a group known for their daring acrobatics and playful shows for the whole family, and it is formed by two acrobats, Teemu Skön and Lassi Tauriainen. For everyone who enjoy flashy and exciting tricks regardless of age!
Tune up your bicycle at the workshop between 11.30-12.30
Ride your bike to TaidePiiLO’s garage and finish the cool summer look with all kinds of stickers, tape, and straws! Bringing your own bike is not a must, you can make your tunings at the workshop and attach them to your bike at home.

Hevisaurus -movie screening

Räyh! Toni hears a strange sound in the forest and captures a strange footprint on camera. Toni lures Suvi with him to investigate what on earth is going on. The quick-witted children soon find themselves on the trail of funny, green creatures that resemble ancient dinosaurs. The children become friends not only with each other, but also with the Hevisaurus’ and learn to appreciate differences and the special qualities of each one.
The film is based on the Hevisaurus brand and the well-known dinosaur characters that play popular music for children and the child-minded. It is a partially animated live action film, where the facial expressions of the dinosaur characters are animated to life. Directed by Pekka Karjalainen. Duration 85 min, suitable for all ages. LystiKylä invites the whole family to enjoy children’s songs that have lasted from generation to generation. The children’s music orchestra Loiskis performs their own fresh interpretations of the unforgettable songs by Georg Malmstén, with vocalists Arja Koriseva and Aki Hietala.

Flea market at Kauppakatu is organized every year at the heart of Jyväskylä by the Tiimiakatemia students of JAMK. Come check out what kind of treasures are waiting to find a new home.
