The Environmental health authorities of the Jyväskylä region supervise the manufacturing, storage, transport, import, export, sale, marketing, handling and serving of food in its area. An essential element of supervision is the provision of advice and guidance to consumers and actors. 

The purpose of food control is to: 

  • to ensure the proper quality and safety of food for consumers; 
  • to prevent and eliminate adverse health effects caused by food 
  • ensure that consumers receive adequate and truthful information concerning foodstuffs 

Please contact the Food control unit when 

  • you suspect you have contracted food poisoning 
  • establishing food premises 
  • the functioning of a food establishment will change 
  • you terminate or interrupt the activity of a food establishment 
  • change of operator in food premises or establishment 
  • you are a primary producer (e.g. growing vegetables, honey production)  
  • you manufacture or import food packages  
  • plan to import food 
  • you sell or serve food from mobile food premises 
  • you have complaints about the quality of a food product or food premises
