Tips for students: Reservations of sport facilities

Jyväskylä is the capital of sport in Finland and the home for sporty students. We have sport facilities for multiple sports with easy access. Some of the sport facilities are available free of charge and some have student discounts.
Sport facilities free of charge
You can do sport for free in the outdoor gyms around the city, hike on the nature trails and play frisbeegolf on the city’s courts. What is more, there are outdoor tennis courts in Huhtasuo and Kotalampi in which you can play for free but you have to reserve them on eTimmi.
The beach volley and football courts in Tuomiojärvi are available free of charge if they are not occupied. Once someone who has reserved the court appears, you have to let them play and step aside.
Student priced swimming, badminton and squash
In general, the pricing is the same for everyone. However, there are a couple of exceptions and student discounts are available for squash in Monitoimitalo and badminton in Hippos and Graniitti. In addition, there are student priced entrance fee in swimming halls. Take the advantage out of these!

The fifth year student Jessica confirms that sport facilities and opportunities are solid in Jyväskylä.
“The pricing is student friendly which encourages to do sport and the facilities are in good condition in general. For example the beach volley courts in Tuomiojärvi and courts in Monnari e.g. Monitoimitalo and Hippos are often available and nearby.”
How to make reservations and which facilities must be reserved beforehand?
“Well basically every sport facility must be reserved except for trails and paths and outdoor gyms”, says booking planner Jyrki Saviranta.
Reserving a sports facility is luckily not a rocket science and it is possible to do online.
Standard shifts to badminton, squash and beach volley must be applied with an application but single shifts can be done through the eTimmi system.
Reserve a sport facility through eTimmi
All the sport facilities of the City of Jyväskylä and their reservations are gathered in the online platform eTimmi. If you are using the systems first time, it can be a bit tricky but you get familiar with it fast. Booking specialist Juha-Matti Kotapakka guides to the smooth booking with the following tips:
- Take your computer or mobile phone and open in the browser: https://etimmi.jyvaskyla.fi/WebTimmi/#/5
- Verify yourself with bank or mobile id.
- Register as a user (required only on the first time).
To get a student discount do the following step once before reserving and paying your first shift.
- Go to the janitor in the Monitoimitalo (address: Kuntoportti 3, 40700 Jyväskylä).
- Fill in the student discount form which you get from the janitor and verify your status with a valid student card.
After this the process continues every time from step 3 onwards until your student sticker is not valid anymore and you have to update it.
- Search sport facilities (white color indicates free court and all the other colors indicate that the facility is reserved or under maintenance).
- Reserve the preferred facility and proceed to pay the shift in the online banking account.
- Go to the facility on your shift and enjoy!
Sport facilities can also be booked through email and from janitors but eTimmi is the most convenient way to do it and pay in advance.
If you come up with questions regarding the facilities, pricing or instructions, do not hesitate to contact the booking specialists:
