Jykylä, Jyskälä, Nykäskylä, Jiikylä, Jypinkylä... Jyväskylä is having many names! 

Jyväskylä is a buzzing and thriving cosmopolitan city. With slightly over 142,000 inhabitants, it is a big yet compact city. Known for its universities and student life, it is a popular place to live and a dynamo of new ideas and innovation. With a compact city centre and immediate access to surrounding nature and wildlife, a wealth of study opportunities and rich cultural offering and other free-time services, Jyväskylä has the makings of a great place to live and work.

There are more than 42,000 students live in Jyväskylä. This means that every third person you meet is likely to be a student. The educational attainment of Jyväskylä inhabitants is very high. Of all Jyväskylä residents over 15 years of age, 78% have at least a secondary level education and every third holds a higher education degree.

The presence of students is felt everywhere in the city: Jyväskylä is a vibrant and youthful city with no end to things to do and see. The bicycle stands are filled with bikes and there are plenty of events on the weekends as well as weekdays. There are boundless opportunities for leisure pursuits and hobbies.

Jyväskylä residents are active. Most of the city's adult population (88%) takes some form of exercise at least once a week.

Jyväskylä has excellent facilities for cycling and most places are within walking distance.
