Jyväskylä is a welcoming city for students. Students have always formed an important and cherished part of Jyväskylä’s demographic, thanks to its long history as a city of education.

Jyväskylä was the home of Finland’s first Finnish-speaking secondary school, teacher training seminary, an all-girl school in the 19th century. Today, one in three residents holds a higher education degree. This is a very high proportion.

According to a 2018 survey by Taloustutkimus, 40% of adult Finns under the age of 30 would recommend Jyväskylä as a place to study. According to the international ISB survey, 95 % of the international students would recommend the University of Jyväskylä.

There are many sides to Jyväskylä that make it the leading city for students:

A manageable and cyclable size, it is youthful, welcoming and idyllic, and people are friendly. Everything within easy reach.
A wide range of disciplines and  high academic standards.

Lovely people, great ambiance, and a warm, encouraging atmosphere.
Cross-disciplinary synergies!
The Athens of Finland! A smart city of learning.
An active, sportive city close to nature. Best sports facilities including local venues and plenty of organised activities. Physical activity is encouraged throughout the year.
