Vapari offers advice and guidance to people seeking volunteering opportunities in Jyväskylä. We work to raise the profile and standards of volunteering in our local area.

Sports Facilities

In Jyväskylä the importance of sport is also reflected in the number of facilities on offer. The City of Jyväskylä maintains altogether 360 sports venues from multipurpose halls to nature trails.

Cultural plan

City of Jyväskylä cultural plan 2022—2025 is completed. It was approved by the City of Jyväskylä’s Culture and Sports Committee on 13.4.2022.

Jyväskylä’s cultural plan 2022-2025 lays out the priorities for development in future years: children and young people, issues linked to facilities, as well as cultural vitality. The key themes of the cultural plan are exactly the same as in the city strategy.

Jyrki Markkanen – Collections/ Areas

Gallery 11.2.−19.3.2023

The solo exhibition of Jyrki Markkanen (b. 1956 Uurainen, central Finland) presents the work of a long-standing printmaker. Markkanen worked at the Ratamo Printmaking Centre in Jyväskylä from the early 1980s until the last few years, when he moved to Imatra in 2016, where he currently lives and works. Since the early years, the focus of the artist's work has shifted from traditional printmaking techniques to photography and old printmaking methods, as well as three-dimensional works.

Deniz Satır –Something Is Bugging Me

Gallery 25.3.–7.5.2023

Known for her flamboyant rug works, Deniz Satır's solo exhibition combines traditional tufting techniques with contemporary themes. The Jyväskylä-based artist's exhibition includes a large, 140-piece installation Ommetaphobia among her latest works.

Youth services activities

Youth services are responsible for regional youth work and youth centres, youth information and counselling, cultural youth work, school youth work, youth participation education, digital youth work, and media activities. The Youth Arts Workshop offers work experience, activities, and guidance for young people who are without work or education. Art and creative methods are part of the Youth Art Workshop's coaching.

Classics of Contemporary Art – the Kuntsi Collection

7.7. – 9.10.2022 

The Kuntsi collection is one of Finland’s most significant art collections, many beloved classics by important contemporary Finnish artists are preserved in their protection.  In honor of the Kuntsi Foundation’s 50th anniversary part of their art collection is presented in Jyväskylä, the city where founder, consul Simo Kuntsi (1913–1984) was born.

Youth Services

The City of Jyväskylä's Youth Services organizes youth work in different residential areas of Jyväskylä, where ten youth centres are located. In the youth centres, young people can meet friends, play games or just hang out. Group meetings, music clubs, theme days, and evening cafés are also a part of youth work in youth centres.

The Youth Art Workshop (Nuorten taidetyöpaja) provides work experience, activities, and guidance for young people who are without work or study.
