The feeding must not cause health or hygiene harm to neighbours or the surrounding environment. Do not let rats, mice or pest birds enter the feeding place. Stop feeding if the surrounding area gets dirty or if pest birds or rats multiply in the area.

In public areas such as parks or recreation areas, the feeding of birds requires the permission of the landowner. The housing company may prohibit or restrict the feeding of birds in its general rules in yards, on balconies, or on window sills.

Birds do not need to be fed in the summer because they find the food they need in the wild. Seed food served in the summer may also hinder the growth of young birds, as the nutritional content of the seed and tallow differs from the natural insect food of the young. One-sided and incorrect nutrition can cause incurable developmental damage to the bones of the wings, which can prevent flying. In addition diseases spread easily at feeding sites in warmer weather.
