MOKUHANGA course in Ratamo, Veturitallinkatu 6
25.–27.4.2025 Fri 17–19, Sat–Sun 10–15
Mokuhanga, a Japanese watercolor woodblock print, is a non-toxic letterpress method that does not require a press. In the course, you will get to know the scope, expressive possibilities and truly painterly effects of watercolor printing. The study begins with color separation and cutting the kento alignment mark, after which the students carve printing plates from Japanese shina plywood. The basis of the practice work is a ready-made one, which you can continue freely and whose color you can choose yourself. A series of images with 3-4 colors and 1-2 bokashi color slides is printed on the tiles. In our studies, we mainly use Japanese materials and equipment. The course is also suitable for those who have never made a woodcut before. The director is printmaker Tuula Moilanen. Price €120 + materials approx. €20.
