Collections and Research
The Jyväskylä Art Museum and the Museum of Central Finland operate jointly as the regional museum for the Central Finland region, which comprises 22 municipalities. The Art Museum develops and promotes cooperation within its field and supports the preservation and digital accessibility of art and visual culture. The museum also serves as an expert in art and visual cultural heritage. The Jyväskylä Art Museum collects, researches and presents visual art from Central Finland and art connected to the region, as well as international and Finnish printmaking.
Collections
The museum expands its art collections, image and archival materials, press cuttings and library holdings. Information is also gathered through interviews with artists. The museum’s archives, databases, reference library and collections are open by appointment to researchers and those interested in art. Works from the City of Jyväskylä art collection bring enjoyment to local residents in municipal offices, libraries, day-care centres, schools and many other locations.

Research
Research activities consist of scholarly expert work, knowledge production and content creation. Research focuses on artworks, artists and phenomena, as well as the history and contemporary state of visual art. Research is carried out either independently or through collaborative projects. Research findings are shared with the public through articles, books, online publications, exhibitions, lectures and guided exhibition tours.
