The seventh largest city in Finland, Jyväskylä received city rights in 1837. At the end of 2021, there were 144,473 people living in our city. That is 1,000 more than the year before. From 1 January 2009, the City of Jyväskylä, the Rural Municipality of Jyväskylä and the municipality of Korpilahti merged into one city, Jyväskylä.

City of Jyväskylä is situated at the northern end of the scenic lake Päijänne, 270 kilometres north from Helsinki.
