Hannes Heikura’s photography exhibition ZONE

This exhibition is composed of two series of black and white photographs: DARK ZONE (2011) and WE WALK ALONE (2013).

”Both series were photographed in Helsinki. The images are always based on reality. But they are not documentations rather, my own interpretations of reality. I try to avoid recognizable milieu. For me it is imperative that my photographs come from this life, and that through them they transcribe my own handprint and quirkiness, which opens in multiple layers and different stories for each viewer. The images do not have names that direct the viewer. At best, the photographs leave their mark on the viewer which stays with them as a mystery. My way of photographing is influenced by the thought that each image is like a portrait of the artist. The photographer must have the courage and a vision of how to bring it out in the open for all to see. In away, I create my own world through my photographs. It is a world, in which people walk past each other without seeing each other. A world which, in the end, bursts into loneliness”, Heikura tells.

Hannes Heikura (b. 1958 in Karvia) lives and works in Helsinki. He is currently working on the third part of a trilogy in colour. The series END OF THE ROAD will be previewed in the fall 2015. Hannes Heikura is known as a photo journalist. His legendary press photos are published mostly in the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
