The City Sports Services is responsible for providing suitable conditions for sports and exercise, but it also organizes physical activity groups. The city arranges swimming schools for children and adults, fitness classes for adults, and adapted physical activities.

Supervised exercise group's fall term is from 3.9. to 15.12.2019 and spring term is from 7.1. to 11.5.2019.

LiikuntaLaturi for Youth

LiikuntaLaturi provides free and instructed lessons of various sports around Jyväskylä for youth between 13-19 years old. The main goal of LiikuntaLaturi is to provide the youth with free-of-charge activities with good atmosphere. Participation does not require any previous experience of any event. No registration is required, no commitment neither. Come along and try once or visit all the lessons.

LiikuntaVeturi for Children and their Families

LiikuntaVeturi provides free and instructed lessons of various sports around Jyväskylä for children between 9-12 years old and for their families. The main goal of LiikuntaVeturi is to provide the children and their families with free-of-charge activities with good atmosphere. Participation does not require any previous experience of any event.  Part of the lessons require registration but there are also lessons that does not require it.

The Adapted Physical Activities

The adapted physical activities are organised for people who have difficulties in participating in normal public physical activity groups because of their disability, illness, diminished functional capacity, or their social situation. Adapted physical activity groups are instructed by professionals who have an education and skills on how to adapt activities to meet their special needs. The aim in the activities is normally to maintain and improve physical capacity and to create possibilities to relax and get refreshed. The most common forms of exercise in the groups are gymnastics, gym training, aquatic activities, dance and ballgames.

Swimming Schools for Children between 7-12 years

Sports Services of Jyväskylä carry out in co-operation with Education Department of Jyväskylä swimming lessons for primary school students within the framework of their curriculum

Swimming School for Adults

Sports Services organizes swimming school for adults during the period from autumn to spring. There are basic-, follow-up- and technique swimming courses and short courses in backstroke, front crawl freestyle, and breaststroke are also available. It is possible to organize tailored swimming technique courses and private lessons for adults as well, according to demand.

Basic swimming course

Basic swimming course is aimed for adults who are unable to swim. There can be variety of reasons behind participating, for example fear of water or experience of a “close call” -situation. The course is carried out taking into account the skill level of every person attending the course. The course includes dipping in the water, floating, gliding and basic swimming.

Swimming technique -course

Swimming technique -course is planned for people who want to improve their swimming technique and improve their swimming to be more economical. All the swimming techniques will be practiced in the course as well as turning, jumping and diving as much as possible.

Short courses in swimming

Short courses in swimming focus on wholesome learning of one particular swimming style. Short courses are aimed for people who already have some kind of conception of the style in question, but who want to improve their swimming technique or improve their swimming to be more economical. Swimming ability is necessary on these short courses.
