The Youth Council of Jyväskylä will hold its annual project funding summit on Thursday, 19 March, at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The funding is intended for projects planned and carried out by young people living in Jyväskylä, supporting youth-led events, activities and initiatives.

The City of Jyväskylä Sports Services organizes various free guided sports trials as part of the NytLiikkeelle service package. The sports trial offers an opportunity to try out the fast-paced and social sport of padel.

At the meeting, the Youth Council revisited its involvement in the preparation of a citizens’ initiative on the sale of energy drinks, drafted by the Youth Council of Kajaani. The initiative proposes banning the sale of energy drinks to under 15-year-olds.

In 2026, the City of Jyväskylä’s youth work celebrates its 80th anniversary. The anniversary year will also be visible at Veturitallit throughout the spring, with a wide range of activities and events open to young people and, at times, to people of all ages. The spring programme offers things to do, opportunities to meet others, culture and creative content as part of the anniversary year as a whole.

The piling work of the Hippos Centre to be built in Hippos, Jyväskylä, has progressed as planned. The piling of the parking garage and the centre of expertise is progressing, and the piling work of the sports centre is now about to begin.

The City of Jyväskylä’s youth services is implementing participatory budgeting at Veturitallit, giving young people the opportunity to influence the content of activities.

Outreach youth work offers a walk-in service at Nuorten talo on Wednesdays from March 4 to June 17, 2026, between 10:00 and 12:00. The service is intended for young people aged 15–28 who are outside education, employment and services, and who could benefit from the support of outreach youth work in moving their situation forward.

March at the City of Jyväskylä’s youth centres is once again energy-drink-free. Energy-Drink-Free March challenges young people and youth workers at the city’s youth centres to give up energy drinks for the entire month.

Jyväskylä celebrates its 189th birthday on March 22nd. The city's birthday week will be celebrated in museums and in other events. The national ARMAS festival, which celebrates aging, will also be held in March, offering a cultural program for seniors. Theater, concerts, exhibitions, and other events are calling on frosty days!

The City Hall is once again hosting its popular guided tours for the public. The city's birthday week is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the City Hall, present day, and works of art on guided tours led by Jyväskylä Tourist Guides, which will be held on Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The tour will visit the public areas of the City Hall on different floors.

On Friday, February 27, 2026, during winter break week, the Jyväskylä Veturitallit Kiskoklubi stage will welcome Jyväskylä-based bands Warorath, Chephreon, and newcomer Vermithor, all of whom rely on dark metal.
