No smoking 

  • indoors in places accessible to the public, customers or employees 
  • outdoor canopies and stands where you stay stationary 
  • outdoor premises of daycare centres and educational institutions (pre-primary and comprehensive education, vocational education, general upper secondary school) 
  • on a public beach (EU beach) from 1.5 to 30.9. 
  • outdoor premises of institutions providing care for persons under 18 years of age  
  • playgrounds with a safety document  
  • within a private vehicle with a person under 15 years of age 

Smokeless tobacco products may not be used indoors, outdoors or in playgrounds in daycare centres or educational institutions providing pre-primary or comprehensive education, vocational education or general upper secondary education. 

In premises where smoking is prohibited, there must be a noticeable sign prohibiting smoking. Restaurants and other catering establishments are non-smoking. It is possible to allow smoking in a particular smoking space.  

Shared premises of a housing community 

Smoking is not allowed in the common and shared indoor premises of a housing community. Such spaces include e.g. 

  • staircases 
  • attic and cellar spaces 
  • bike cellars 
  • club facilities 
  • shared sauna facilities 

The housing corporation may prohibit smoking in public outdoor spaces under the control of the housing corporation. 

Smoking may be prohibited on the premises of a housing company by a statute. This requires the consent of all shareholders. In rental apartments, a smoking ban may be agreed in a rental agreement. 

Housing companies may, if necessary, arrange a smoking place that is located outdoors far enough away from the building, the air vents, and doors and windows which open.
