Housing health

When you suspect an indoor air problem, primarily contact the property owner or their representative (housing company manager, chairman of the board of directors, landlord) who is obliged to clarify the cause of the problem and remedy the defects. 

For example, the ventilation plays a key role in maintaining indoor air conditions. The purpose of ventilation is to bring clean air indoors and to remove any impurities originating in the building. 

Indoor air surveys and condition examinations are carried out, for example, by engineering offices and indoor air companies. 

External experts in accordance with the Housing Health Regulation shall be employed in the assessment of health impacts.

Apartment inspection 

Before making a request for an apartment inspection from the Environmental health services, contact first of all the property owner or their representative, who may be the housing company's manager, chairman of the board of directors or landlord. The request for verification shall be processed within approximately one month of receipt of the request. 

A health protection authority is only needed when the parties concerned cannot agree on the measures needed to solve the indoor air problem or to eliminate it, or if a statement of health damage is needed, for example, for a repair grant. The aim is for limited liability housing companies to deal with indoor air problems with experts without any obligations imposed by the Health protection authority. 

If necessary, an inspection request may be made to the Health protection authority to clarify the matter. 

Apartment inspection request 

The request should be filled in as thoroughly and carefully as possible. Based on the request for an inspection, an inspection of the site shall be agreed on in which the parties concerned, such as the resident, the landlord, the manager and the representative of the housing company, are present.
