Jyväskylä City Library was shut down this week and will remain closed until at least 14 April. However, there is no need to panic because during the closure, loans will not be due and no overdue fees will be charged.

What will happen to past-due loans?

During the closure, there will be no overdue charges on normal and interlibrary loans. The library has extended all due dates of loans expiring during the closure. No overdue reminders will be sent. If you have a loan which became due before the closure, you can renew it online, if you so wish. In this case, the due date will be extended to a time when the libraries are again open.

Also, please do not worry about fees and charges if you cannot renew your past-due loans. These can all be sorted out with the library staff, once the closure is over.

No new reservations

During the closure, new reservations cannot be made. If you have already reserved a book or other material, the reservation will remain valid during the closure. The same applies to reservations that are ready for pick up. Thus, you will not lose your place in the queue and will not need to pay fees for non-picked-up loans.

E-library remains open during the closure

E-library makes it possible for you to enjoy entertainment and culture at home. The Keski-libraries’ E-book collection holds e.g., more than 2000 items, provided by the Ellibs company. The collection includes both E-books and E-audiobooks and contains materials for adults, young people and children. At Ellibs, it is even possible to make reservations.

Also included in the E-library are magazines and newspapers. In addition, you have access to and can even learn music.

To borrow some of the E-materials, you only need your library card number. However, to borrow books from the Ellibs collection, you also need a PIN code. If you do not yet have a PIN code, you can acquire it in two ways:

  • If your library card is linked to your email address, you can acquire the PIN code by yourself by following the online instructions.
  • If your library card is not linked to your email address, you can acquire the PIN code during the closure by calling the library phone service number on weekdays 10-16, tel. 014 266 4123.

To access the E-library collection, go to Keski Libraries E-library.
