What is a youth centre?

It is a place where you can meet friends, play games, listen to music, watch TV, do homework or just hang out. You can also find outdoor equipment in the youth facilities. There are always at least two youth workers working at a youth centre. Alcohol and other psychoactive substances are not allowed in youth centres.

City of Jyväskylä's youth centres

Youth centres are mainly intended for young people under 18 years of age. In Jyväskylä, youth centres are usually open until 20:00 on weekdays. On Fridays, youth centres may be open until 22:00.

Various youth groups also operate at the centres. Various clubs, themed days and evening cafés are organised for the groups. Youth services organise events, tournaments, workshops and seminars. These activities are free of charge and usually have no age restrictions.

Each youth centre has gaming consoles. The game room at Jyväskylän Veturitallit has 10 gaming computers. The computers come with a selection of the most popular online games pre-installed. The room also has a VR computer with several games pre-installed that you can try out.

Veturitallit also has a studio and software for creating music and videos. The equipment can be used independently or under the guidance of a youth worker. An appointment is required to use the studio.

Nuorisopaku is a van that delivers a range of recreational activities to various locations in Jyväskylä. Young people can book Nuorisopaku to come to different parts of the city.
