Traffic in the area

Traffic on the Hippos site

The Hippos Center construction site is expanding. Through traffic along Hipposraitti has been removed, as has pedestrian and bicycle traffic along Hipposraitti to the sports facilities in the sports park. Pedestrians and cyclists are directed to use other routes.

Access via the route between LähiTapiola Arena and the construction site is only permitted for those visiting the property.

Traffic in other areas of Hippos

Alva-Yhtiöt Oy's district heating construction site at the end of Pitkäkatu closes both the parking area (sand parking area) at the end of the street and the pedestrian and bicycle connection between AaltoAlvari and Keskussairaalantie. A temporary route for pedestrians and cyclists runs through the university's Seminaarinmäki campus.

The district heating construction site on Rautpohjankatu is nearing completion. The Rautpohja 1 public transport stop, which has been closed during the construction period, will reopen in week 4. The pedestrian and bicycle path will be partially opened in week 4 to allow access to the stop.

Parking

Parking areas can be found on both sides of Kalle Rutanen's path in Hippos, as well as in the parking areas between Hipposhalli and Rautpohjankatu and between Hipposhalli and Köyhälammi. These parking areas are four-hour parking spaces. In addition, paid parking spaces are available at the AaltoAlvari parking deck and parking garage.

The parking areas in the Hippos sports park area have switched to four-hour parking. Parking restrictions apply every day of the week, 24 hours a day.

Parking spaces for people with disabilities are located

  • In front of the B1 entrance to the multi-purpose building
  • Next to Hipposhalli on the Köhälammi side of the hall
  • In the parking area between Hipposhalli and Rautpohjankatu
  • In the LähiTapiola Arena parking area

Drop-off traffic

The drop-off point for Hippos Sports Park is located in front of Hipposhalli on the Köyhälampi side of the hall. The drop-off point is intended for dropping off and picking up users of the sports facilities and spectators arriving for matches and events in the area.

Hippos has well provided public transport services

Public transport operates in the area on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., and on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. When arriving at Hippos from the city center, the closest stops are Jäähalli 2 and Rautpohja 2 on Rautpohjankatu. When traveling from Hippos to the city center, the closest stops are Rautpohja 1 and Jäähalli 1.

The area can also be reached by bus lines running along Voionmaankatu: Hippos is about a 300-meter walk from the Syrjälä 1 and Syrjälä 2 stops. Several bus routes run along Keskussairaalantie, and Hippos is about a 500-meter walk from the Yliopisto 1 and Yliopisto 2 stops.
