Different solutions for different user groups
Some of the new Hippos training facilities have been designed to be adaptable and flexible so that they can be used by a wide range of sports enthusiasts and clubs. The accessible and easily accessible facilities are also well suited for disabled sports.
The Hippos Center being built in Jyväskylä consists of four entities:
- Sports Center
- Skills Center
- Ice Arena
- Hippos Park
In addition, a sports park will be built in the outdoor area at a later date.
Sports Center
The new 33,400 m2 Sports Center will offer training facilities for over 20 different sports and sports, as well as an indoor arena with a capacity of approximately 2,000 spectators, multi-purpose sports fields, facilities for athletics, gymnastics, martial arts, and group exercise.
Construction of the Sports Center will begin in January, and the center is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Skills Center
Construction of the Skills Center premises will begin in January 2026, and the Skills Center and parking garage are expected to be completed in the Hippos area in the summer of 2027.
The Skills Center will cover an area of approximately 18,050 m2.
Ice Arena
The Ice Arena will have a sports arena for over 5,600 people, a concert arena for about 6,500 people, and three training ice rinks with stands.
Construction of the Ice Arena will start right after the ice sports season ends in spring 2026. The Ice Arena will be built in stages, with training ice rinks 2 and 3 being completed first.
The entire Ice Arena is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, when the competition ice rink and training ice rink 1 will also be completed.
Hippos Park
Parking in the area will be provided in a parking garage to be built in connection with the premises. The garage will have over 700 parking spaces and the courtyard areas will have approximately 250 parking spaces.
Construction of the Hippos area parking garage, Hippos-Park, will begin in December 2025. The parking garage and competence center are expected to be completed in the Hippos area in the summer of 2027.
