Language Showering in Pre-School Education

In Jyväskylä, all pre-schoolers get to acquaint themselves with foreign languages by means of ‘language showering’. In the pre-schooling curriculum, it is specified that the child is allowed in pre-schooling to obtain familiarity with the city’s A1 languages, which are English, German, French and Russian, via language showering.  This way children become acquainted with foreign languages before choosing the first foreign language – the A1 language – which is selected in the first class. The A1 language is chosen for the first class in connection with registration.

Student welfare services in upper secondary school

Students in upper secondary school can also access the City of Jyväskylä’s pupil and student support services. The service is staffed by psychologists and student welfare advisors, who are on hand to offer help and guidance to all students. The services are provided with the student’s consent, and they can also involve family and friends as well as teachers and other relevant professionals.  The purpose of the service is to promote the wellbeing of individual students and the wider school community and to help create a safe and positive learning environment for all.

Support for learning and growth

Support for learning and growth

The task of the entire school staff is, in co-operation with the student's guardians, to support the pupil's school attendance, learning, as well as positive growth and development. If the student needs support, the student is provided with remedial education in his or her own class, individually with a remedial education teacher, in small groups, or remedial education groups. Depending on students’ needs, this support may be provided as enhanced support based on an individual learning plan, or full time special education.
