The library's collections offer knowledge, skills and experiences

Our collections include nearly one million items. Books make up the majority, more than 80%, of the collections. Most of the collection is in Finnish, but we also have a lot of material in other languages, especially fiction. In addition to Jyväskylä's own collection, you can access the materials of all public libraries in Central Finland in our joint Keski Online Library at https://keski.finna.fi/.

The collections include:

  • non-fiction
  • fiction
  • children's and young adults’ material
  • magazines and newspapers
  • audio books
  • films
  • music
  • console and board games
  • language courses
  • maps
  • sports equipment
  • musical instruments
  • own publications

The Jyväskylä City Library maintains and gathers material for the Jyväskylä collection, a collection of material related to Jyväskylä.

Old and little used material is stored in the main library's stock. The works in the stock are mainly loanable.

Items that are not available in Jyväskylä libraries can be borrowed from other libraries: see interlibrary loans. You can also submit acquisition proposals to the library.
