Visual Arts Lecture Series: WE CREATED ART HISTORY - Jyväskylä Artists' Association 80 Years
The Jyväskylä Artists’ Association was founded after the wars in 1945, and its anniversary year was celebrated in 2025. The history of the Association can be approached as a long, branching chain of generations of artists. Although the members’ artistic views may have differed greatly from one another, within the Association they have all shared a common, communal goal: to create the best possible conditions for their artists’ creative work and for the free development of art.
Please note: the language of lectures is Finnish.
In the lectures, critic and artist Hannu Castrén serves as a guide through the steps of history, pausing together with the audience to explore significant details along the way over the decades. Each lecture has its own theme, and in connection with it, current artists from the Artists’ Association are invited to participate. The artists present their work through images and words. The audience is also invited to take part by sharing their own memories and questions.
The lectures will be held in early 2026 as a collaboration between the Jyväskylä Artists’ Association, Jyväskylä Community College, and the Art Museum. The venue is Lecture Hall 1 at the Community College, Vapaudenkatu 39–41 (Main Library–Community College building). The lecture is a hybrid event and can also be followed remotely via Zoom.
