Third graders will choose the A2 language by 25.1.2026
Two hours per week studying Spanish, German, French or Russian as an A2 language
In the schools of basic education in Jyväskylä, you can study Spanish, German, French or Russian as an A2 language. The language is studied in grades 4–9 for two hours per week.
In the lower secondary school (grades 7-9), A2 language is one of the student's optional subjects starting from grade 8. The A2 language is voluntary when choosing, and the commitment to language learning is made for the duration of basic education. Students studying a language other than English as an A1 language start with English as an A2 language.
A minimum of 12 pupils is required to start an A2 language group. If a language group is not formed in the pupil's own school, the pupil has the right to transfer to the language group of another school for the A2 language teaching or to change schools. In this case, the guardians are responsible for the costs of school commute.
In Jyväskylä, A2 language studying is also offered as hybrid teaching, in which case the teacher teaches at two schools on alternate weeks and another group studies remotely on alternate weeks.
Information on the groups formed in the A2 language will be available on 15.2.2026. School principals will inform the guardians of third graders in Wilma about the groups that will be formed.
