Drinking water

Environmental health monitors drinking water used as drinking water, for food preparation and other household purposes. Drinking water is also water used in food establishments and in public or commercial activities. 

We also provide advice and instructions on matters related to private wells and maintained springs. 

Water supply network 

Environmental health in the Jyväskylä region supervises the quality of drinking water supplied by water supply plants. Drinking water must meet the quality requirements and recommendations laid down by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.  

Suspicion regarding water quality 

In questions related to water from the supply network, the consumer must first contact the water supply plant. 

In the case of a suspected health hazard caused by water, environmental health inspectors investigate the quality characteristics of the drinking water in cooperation with the water supply plant. If necessary, disinfection or some other treatment may be ordered for the drinking water, in which case water users will be informed and instructed on possible restrictions on water use.
