The Covid-19 situation calming down in Jyväskylä - Sports restrictions for under 18 years old will be released and libraries and museums will be opened to the public from 15 February 2021

During this week a total of 47 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Jyväskylä. Jyväskylä's incidence rate has also decreased. The need for hospital care has not increased significantly either. Approximately 80% of the origin of infections can be traced. Consequently, Jyväskylä has returned to the accelerating phase of the coronavirus.

Jyväskylä is still in the spreading phase of the coronavirus epidemic. Last week, 123 new infections were detected, compared with around 240 the week before. The two-week incidence rate of coronavirus infections in Jyväskylä was as much as 229.8 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The need for hospital care in Jyväskylä has not started to grow significantly.

Jyväskylä suspends sports activities for under 18 years old in the city premises and closes libraries and museums 

The City of Jyväskylä's Emergency Management Team reviewed the weakened COVID-19 situation in the city. The Emergency Management Team decided that the city will suspend sports activities for children and young under the age of 18 in the city premises for two weeks. In addition, the city decided to close libraries and museums for two weeks starting on 1st of February.

On 17 December The Regional State Administrative Agency for Western and Inland Finland issued an order that the number of participants in public events should be limited to 10 people as of 22 December. The order is valid until 17 January 2021. The order has an impact on the City of Jyväskylä's operations.

Jyväskylä, the Capital of sport, to become the main driver of the European Erasmus+Sport cooperation

The capital of sport, Jyväskylä, is building an international co-operation network with Umeå and Tartu, as well as the regional sports clubs, with the aim of supporting young people's physical activity in the target areas. The pilot project, funded by the European Union and coordinated by the City of Jyväskylä, will start in January 2021.

City of Jyväskylä prohibits the public from attending match and competition events at its own venues until 21 December 2020, the performances of the Jyväskylä Sinfonia and the City theatre will be cancelled

The ban is due to the worsening coronavirus situation and the decision issued yesterday by the Regional State Administrative Agency to limit the number of participants in public events.
