Follow jyväskylä’s resource wisdom work through the renewed environmental watch

The Environmental Watch is an online service maintained by the City of Jyväskylä that brings together information on the city’s resource wisdom goals, measures and results. The measures cover topics such as low-emission district heating, energy-efficient outdoor lighting, climate-friendly construction and biodiversity-supporting green spaces.

The Environmental Watch has now been updated to reflect the recently renewed Resource Wise Jyväskylä Programme, making it easier to follow the city’s work towards a more sustainable everyday life. The City of Jyväskylä first launched the Environmental Watch in 2022.

A clearer structure improves access to information

The renewed Environmental Watch features a fresher visual appearance and a simpler structure than before. The aim has been to make the website more approachable and to ensure that key information can be found as easily as possible. Particular attention has been paid to usability and the clarity of content.

The goals and measures are grouped under three main themes: climate change mitigation and adaptation, advancing the circular economy, and strengthening biodiversity.

For each goal, the website describes the current situation, the desired change and the measures planned for the coming years to achieve the target. The site also shows how individual measures are progressing and what actions have already been taken.

”The Environmental Watch is now easier to use than before. Visitors can follow, for example, how greenhouse gas emissions are being considered in the construction of the Kauramäki daycare and school campus, or how biodiversity is being enhanced through the management of green areas. I encourage everyone to explore the website and return to it regularly, as information on the progress of measures is updated on an ongoing basis,” says Päivi Pietarinen, Environmental Director.

The Environmental Watch is available (in Finnish) at ymparistovahti.jyvaskyla.fi.
