Street youth work brings youth work professionals directly to where young people are. The aim is to meet young people in public and semi-public spaces and other places where young people spend their free time, and where a youth work presence is needed or considered appropriate. This form of youth work focuses on young people’s leisure time. Street youth work also observes current phenomena among young people, including trends, popular hangout spots and topical issues.
Versatile cooperation between different youth work actors
The street youth work team includes employees from the City of Jyväskylä’s Youth Services, the Jyväskylä Parish and the Deaconess Foundation Vamos Jyväskylä. The target group of the Luotsi project consists of young people aged 16–29 living in Jyväskylä. These young people may be unemployed, outside the labour market, partially able to work, subject to compulsory education, or have interrupted their vocational studies. The project involves workers from the City of Jyväskylä’s Youth Services and the Deaconess Foundation Vamos Jyväskylä.
The mobile youth work unit, Nuorisopaku, provides versatile leisure-time activities around Jyväskylä, with a focus on sparsely populated areas and localities where Youth Services do not otherwise organise activities.
Outreach youth work offer all young people under the age of 29 the opportunity for personal guidance and support. In Jyväskylä, youth outreach work is carried out by the City of Jyväskylä’s Youth Services and Sovatek.
