The City of Jyväskylä helps young people find jobs by giving financial support to companies that hire them. Companies can apply for a youth recruitment subsidy if they hire a young person who is registered as unemployed. At the moment, about 3,300 young people under the age of 30 are unemployed in Jyväskylä and Muurame. About 1,400 of them have been without work for more than six months.

Uudenmaan elinvoimakeskus has given the City of Jyväskylä €1,519,000 to support youth employment. This money is meant to help young people get jobs in private companies that do business. The support is for companies that hire unemployed young people aged 18–29.
The goal of the support is to help young people gain work experience and new skills. It also aims to help them find long-term jobs in companies in Jyväskylä and Muurame.
The youth recruitment subsidy makes it easier for employers to hire. It helps cover some of the costs at the beginning of the job, such as wages and training.

—Jyväskylä is a key place to study and learn skills for many professions. Young job seekers bring new ideas, up-to-date skills and strong motivation to companies. We encourage companies to start hiring for the future already now, says Hanna Lähteelä, Director of Employment Services for the City of Jyväskylä.

A company can receive recruitment support for six months when hiring a young person. The support covers 50 per cent of the monthly salary, up to a maximum of €1,500 per month.
The employer can receive this support if:

the young person has only completed basic education and has been unemployed for more than three months, or the young person has completed upper secondary school, a vocational qualification or a higher education degree and has been unemployed for at least six months.

In addition to this youth recruitment subsidy, the City of Jyväskylä also offers other types of financial support for employers and organisations. Employers can also apply for wage subsidies as usual. The rules and conditions are different for each type of support, so employers should check them before hiring. The City of Jyväskylä’s business and employer services help employers find suitable employees and choose the best financial support option.
