Enrolment for the first grade takes place between 16.1.-1.2.2026

All children born in 2019 or earlier who have not yet started school are enrolled in the first grade. During the period 16.1.-1.2.2026, enrolls also those new school entrants who have not been selected for the school or English-language teaching they applied for in October.
In Wilma's registration form, the child has been assigned to a primary local school, which the guardian approves or, alternatively, applies for a secondary school place for the child. The definition of a local school considers the number of school places and basic education groups, as well as the sufficiency of school facilities in the schools in the basic education area (the principle of appropriateness). The Jyväskylä Teacher Training School can be a newcomer's local school in the same way as other basic education schools in the City of Jyväskylä.

Guardians will be informed of the child's school place via Wilma message or by letter to their home on 11.3.2026. Registration for afternoon activities in Jälkkäri for basic education and morning and afternoon activities for children with demanding and special needs for Vertti is open from 12.-31.3.2026. More information about the registration will be provided closer to the event.

The A1 language is chosen when enrolling in the school

The study of the first foreign language, the A1 language, begins in the first grade. The guardian selects the A1 language of the newcomer in the Wilma system when registering for school. The letter sent to home will also include more information on studying and choosing the A1 language.
