Work on the Hippos Center being built in Jyväskylä is progressing as planned, carried out by companies based in Central Finland.

The groudwork contractor for the construction of the sports centre and the competence center is Maansiirtoliike Koivunen Oy.

Alva-yhtiöt Oy is responsible for the construction of the infrastructure grids. The main contractor for the water supply network is Maansiirto Viiala Oy. Alva's annual contractual partners Maansiirto Mäkelä Oy and Sähkö Via Oy are carrying out the technical work on the heat networks and electrical grids.

Construction of the Hippos project will be carried out in stages, and the entire project will be completed by the end of 2028. The construction is carried out using a project management service model, with Fimpec PMO Oy.

-    In total, there will be around 70 different contracts per building to be constructed. By dividing the procurement into smaller parts, we aim to ensure that as many local companies as possible can participate in the competitive tendering process. The total employment impact of the project during the construction phase is estimated at around 2,600 person-years, of which 1,500 person-years are direct, says Ville Niskakangas, Project Manager at the City of Jyväskylä.

The progress of the project can be followed on the city's website Renewed Hippos area

The renovated Hippos will become the most significant center for sports, elite athletics, events, and education in the Nordic countries. Hippos offers city residents and clubs a magnificent setting for recreational sports and professional training. It also combines sports research and technological product development into an internationally significant entity.
