The events of Jyväskylä Sinfonia reached almost 38,000 listeners last year
In addition to its concerts, the orchestra carried out a diverse range of audience engagement activities that impressively reached 13,924 people. These activities included, among others, Sinfonia on the Move mini-concerts around the city, institutional concerts, school concerts, open rehearsals and artist meet-and-greets.
“2025 was the Jyväskylä Sinfonia's second year in its new home venue, Encore at Paviljonki. After a record-breaking year in 2024, it is delightful to see that the orchestra’s regular audiences have embraced the hall as their own, and that a portion of the new listeners who discovered the hall during its opening year appear to have become regular ticket buyers. Although the overall audience numbers declined by roughly 6,500 from the previous year, the figures from before the relocation to the new hall were exceeded by several thousand. To ensure the continued positive development of its audience base and to fulfill its diverse public mission, Jyväskylä Sinfonia invested particularly in audience engagement in 2025 alongside its symphony, entertainment, and chamber concerts – reaching 3,600 more listeners through this work than in the previous year,” says General Manager Eeva-Maria Kopp.
“In a nutshell, 2025 was a year of versatile and high-quality activity for Jyväskylä Sinfonia, with the focus on serving different audiences in a wide variety of venues and with varied programming. High artistic quality was highlighted in everything we did; the orchestra is developing at great speed now that it can finally rehearse and perform in the same space, and already in the second year in the new hall we were able to reap the rewards of this work,” Kopp concludes delightedly.
Collaborative concerts and outstanding guest soloists added color to the year
Particular highlights of the year included successful joint concerts with Lohja City Orchestra, Kuopio City Orchestra and Oulu Symphony, a Valentine’s Day dance at the beautifully restored Valtiontalo, as well as sold-out concerts with the vocal ensemble Rajaton and blues guitarist Erja Lyytinen.
Throughout the year, Jyväskylä Sinfonia was conducted by several guest conductors, including Gordon Hunt, Tomas Djupsjöbacka, Olli Mustonen, Rumon Gamba and Nick Davies. Memorable guest soloists included, among others, pianist Mackenzie Melemed, clarinetist Christoffer Sundqvist, flutist Janne Thomsen and, from among the orchestra’s own outstanding musicians, Elias Lassfolk, Inoko Isobe and Zoltán Kövér.
During the year, a new recording, Naava, was also released, featuring works by Ville Matvejeff and Joel Järventausta. The album release concert in October also marked the 80th anniversary of the Society of Finnish Composers.
