13.1.2026
Applications for a pre-primary education place are submitted during the period 16.1.-1.2.2026
Families using municipal daycare centres will receive detailed instructions via Edlevo message, and client families of private daycare centres will receive instructions from the child's own daycare centre. If the child needs early childhood education in addition to pre-primary education, the application for an early childhood education place is submitted at the same time as the pre-primary education application. For children who need 24/7 daycare, pre-primary education is organised in daycare centre that provides 24/7 daycare.
If applying for pre-primary education at private daycare centre and the child also needs early childhood education, guardians must complete both the pre-primary education application and the service voucher application via the online early childhood education services.
Pre-primary education is free of charge and is provided for four hours a day, a total of 700 hours. According to the Basic Education Act, every child must participate in pre-primary education, and the guardian is responsible for attending.
Pre-primary education arrangements in the school year 2026-2027
In Jyväskylä, the location of pre-primary education groups is decided annually. Issues that annually affect the formation and location of pre-primary education groups include:
- Ensuring high-quality pre-primary education for every child
- Matching the number of applicants with available places in daycare centres
- Suitability of facilities for pre-primary education
- Ability to form a peer group of at least seven children
- Number of applicants of other ages in need of early childhood education
