The City of Jyväskylä reminds visitors that felling of trees, cutting of branches, and collecting deadwood from the ground in the Haukanniemi nature reserve is prohibited under the protection decision issued on 23 January 2018.

During the spring, the City has received several reports of firewood being collected from the Haukanniemi nature reserve and of wood collected from the area being burned at the shelter on the Haukanniemi Accessible Nature Trail.

The ban on collecting wood applies to all nature conservation areas owned by the City of Jyväskylä. If further cases of wood collection from nature conservation areas are observed, the City’s environmental protection unit will report the matter to the police.

The Haukanniemi nature trail does not have a firewood supply. Each hiker must bring their own firewood. A suitable amount of firewood for a trip can be purchased, for example, from a petrol station.
