During week 2, the guardians of newcomers to school will receive a letter sent by post with more detailed instructions on enrolment practices. There will also be a parents´evening for the guardians of newcomers to the first grade on 15.1.2025 at 17.30-19 via Teams.

All children born in 2018 or earlier who have not yet started school are enrolled in the first grade. Also children, who have not been admitted to the school or to English speaking classes they applied for in October, will also register.
In Wilma's enrolment form, the child has been given a primary local school that the guardian approves or, alternatively, applies for a secondary school place to another school for the child. When defining a local school, the number of school places and basic education groups as well as the adequacy of school facilities in the schools are taken into account. Jyväskylä Teacher Training School can be a child’s local school in the same way as other basic education schools in the City of Jyväskylä.
The guardians have been informed of the child's school place by Wilma message or by letter sent by post. When the child’s school place for August is confirmed, enrolment to morning and afternoon activities in basic education in Jälkkäri and morning and afternoon activities for children in need of intensive special needs support in Vertti will be made in the Wilma system between 12.-26.3.2025.
The A1 language is chosen when enrolling in the school
The studing of the first foreign language, A1 language, begins in the first grade in Finland. The guardian chooses the child’s A1 language when enrolling in the Wilma system. The letter of enrolment for the first grade sent by post is also accompanied by instructions on studying and choosing the A1 language. More information will also be available on 20.1.2025 at 6–7.30 p.m. at the parents' evening held via Teams.
