Independence Day celebrations
On 6.12.2021 Independence Day will be celebrated in Jyväskylä with a programme organized by the City of Jyväskylä, the Jyväskylä garrison and the Jyväskylä parish.
The Independence Day service will be held at Taulumäki Church at 10am, Lohikoskentie 2. The participants are invited to wear their facemasks on arrival. The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Soldier’s grave in the old cemetery at 11.30am, Puistokatu.
The Independence Day celebration at Jyväskylä Pavilion at 1 pm is cancelled. The event can be followed online www.jyvaskyla.fi/ajankohtaista/tilaisuus
The keynote speaker will be the Regional Mayor Pekka Hokkanen, and the welcoming address will be given by the Chairman of the City Board Jaakko Selin. Representatives of the Jyväskylä Youth Council will read the Message of Freedom and the celebratory music for this event will be, inter alia, by the Air Force Band with their soloists.
A fireworks display for the turn of the year
The City of Jyväskylä will organise the traditional fireworks to mark the turn of the year. City residents can watch the fireworks around the town at 00.00. At midnight the New Year’s speech by the Mayor of the city will be heard. At the same time a surprise New Year’s light display organized by the City of Light will be projected on the wall of the city hall!
The New Year for families with children will be organized on 31.12. between 2pm and 5pm at the Mäki-Matti family park. The real Snow Princess will be present at this free outdoor event.
