Salminen, who represents the local track and field sports club, Jyväskylän kenttäurheilijat, became the world champion in the 400-metre hurdles in the World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi on 22 August 2021.
The gold medal in world championships won by the young resident of Jyväskylä is unprecedented, because never before has a Finnish female runner reached a medal in the under-twenty world championships. Now in her third year in an upper secondary school with a focus on sports, Salminen has pursued running within her sports club already for the last ten years.
