The ban is due to the worsening coronavirus situation and the decision issued yesterday by the Regional State Administrative Agency to limit the number of participants in public events.

The Regional State Administrative Agency of Western and Inner Finland prohibits indoor and outdoor public events and general meetings attended by more than 20 (twenty) people. The order is valid from 2 December to 21 December 2020. Therefore, the performances of the Jyväskylä City Theatre and Jyväskylä Sinfonia are cancelled until 21 December. However, the play rehearsals will continue normally, taking into account the safety instructions. The Decision of the Regional State Administrative Agency does not affect libraries or museums.

Public participation at city-owned sports facilities and outdoor events are prohibited altogether.  However, in sport events closed to the public, the number of participants of athletes and staff can exceed 20 persons, as a closed event is no longer considered a public event.

The city has already cancelled all christmas events and concerts in schools. In addition, various training events and seminars have already been transferred to be held online.

The Decision of the Regional State Administrative Agency does not affect libraries or museums

The Regional State Administrative Agency of Western and Inner Finland prohibits all indoor and outdoor public events and general meetings attended by more than 20 (twenty) people during 2 - 21 December. However, public events and general meetings in Central Finland's healtcare district area with max. 20 (twenty) people may be held indoors and outdoors if safety can be ensured. According to the Regional State Administrative Agency, public events include concerts, theatre and summer theatre plays, movie screenings, festivals, markets, individual auctions, athletics events and other sports matches and tournaments (e.g. baseball, football and ice hockey) if there are audiences present.

The order does not therefore apply, for example, to the hobby activities of the Adult Education Centre (except the city's own recommendation on the number of participants in sports activities) or to the activities of museums or libraries. Their operation will therefore continue normally, taking into account the safety instructions.
