The City of Jyväskylä will be opening its beaches in accordance with the decisions of the Finnish government. This summer, starting on June 2, the City Sport Services will be operating a lifeguard service at Tuomiojärvi beach. A lifeguard will be at the beach from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. The beach is furnished with lifebuoys, dustbins, as well as bathing boxes and toilets. In spite of the lifeguard, parents bear the responsibility for the safety of their children at the beach.

The Jyväskylä Sports Services operate a total of 34 public beaches. All beaches have been cleaned up by divers before the beginning of the swimming season. All beaches have lifebuoys.

Over the summer, the Sports Services are liable to change the opening hours of and services offered by their locations pursuant to decisions or recommendations by the Finnish government, the City of Jyväskylä or the Regional State Administrative Agency.

Beach safety and cleanliness a priority during the coronavirus epidemic

The coronavirus pandemic is not yet over. We implore all those who use the public beaches to observe the general instructions and recommendations on hygiene and safety in order to minimize the risk of infection. As far as is currently known, the risk of contracting the coronavirus from swimming in natural waters is estimated to be low. What risk exists mainly involves close contact between swimmers. The toilets at the beaches cannot offer an opportunity to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
