Eteläportti will be developed into Europe’s most modern digital service hub for the manufacturing industry by the year 2030.

- Our goal is to attract 60 industrial and cross-cutting growth companies that are motivated to stay on the crest of digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence, and circular economy. The physical and virtual product development and innovation network create unique, added value for companies in a modern smart technology environment, Project Manager of Business Jyväskylä Heikki Kinnunen envisioned.

Moventas Gears Oy, a manufacturer of wind turbine power transmission solutions in Eteläportti, is looking for actors to support their business growth.

- Combining research, product development, modern design and manufacturing technology and the potential of digitalization, will create a business environment that enables new innovative solutions for companies. Operators in the ecosystem get to be involved in competitive value networks, which in turn attract international players, says Kinnunen.

A development project boosting the value network formation

The development of the Eteläportti-ecosystem requires active value networking. Launched in early 2019, Business Jyväskylä's Eteläportti-development project brings resources and accelerates the development of the region. The aim is that the 60 small and medium-sized enterprises in the project will create a renewed industrial value network that, if successful, will facilitate new business and thus new jobs.

- During the first half of the year, over 40 companies and other actors from Central Finland and other parts of Finland have been met on the behalf of the project. Additionally, two themed workshops were organized for enterprise groups.

- In order to succeed in new business opportunities, digitalization must be utilized. It is not yet perhaps fully understood what digitalization can offer. At the same time, technologies are developing at a rapid pace. Data provides enterprises with new possibilities for business endeavors.

- This work is done in collaboration with companies, network operators and educational and research institutions. In the workshops, we define, among other things, a new digital service concept that will be piloted as a shared platform for business resources.

- Sharing resources can mean, for example, shared spaces, machines, human resources, and means of transport or energy. We promote the emergence of a circular economy and low carbon business environments - it is a prerequisite for the Eteläportti to become an international level business and workplace area, Kinnunen sums up.

The workshops are part of the Eteläportti development project. The Central Finland ELY Centre, the City of Jyväskylä and the Municipality of Muurame fund the project.
