H.E. Facundo Vila will also meet Timo Koivisto, The Mayor of Jyväskylä and Tommi Lindh, the CEO of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, who will accompany Mr. Ambassador during his time in Jyväskylä.
The Alvar Aalto Foundation maintains the legacy of the world-famous architect and designer Alvar Aalto, and acts to make his work and thinking more widely known. The Museum, founded in 1966 in Jyväskylä, is a specialist museum of architecture and design, and a national and international centre for information about Alvar Aalto, with extensive collections that form the basis for its exhibitions and publications.
Säynätsalo Town Hall is one of Aalto’s most significant works and it enjoys a position all of its own in the history of modern architecture. Aalto designed the town hall as a complete work of art, and this can be seen in the details and in the furniture designed specifically for the building. The Muuratsalo Experimental House, the summer home of Alvar and Elissa Aalto, is situated on the western shore of the island of Muuratsalo, in Lake Päijänne. Within the grounds of the Experimental House are the summer home itself, a woodshed and a smoke sauna.
