If you are unsure whether you need a permit for a specific project or construction work, please contact the City Planning Advisory Service either by phone at 014 569 6000 or by email at [email protected].
You can also ask the advisory service for more details on document requirements if necessary.
A building permit is valid for five years. You may begin work covered by the permit only once the permit has become legally valid, unless you have applied for a separate “start-at-your-own-risk” provision in connection with the permit application. Work covered by the permit must begin within three years and must be completed within five years of the permit becoming legally valid. Work covered by a demolition permit or a landscaping permit must be completed within three years.
You may apply for an extension of the permit’s validity if the work is in progress
The building control authority may extend the validity of the permit for the commencement of work by up to two years if the legal conditions for construction or other measures remain in effect. The deadlines for completing the work may be extended by up to three years at a time.
An application for an extension must be submitted as a separate application and must be filed during the permit’s validity period.
Permits are applied for online in the Jyväskylä e-service (only in Finnish).
