Art of Graphics at the Ratamo Printmaking and Photography Centre
The Ratamo Printmaking and Photography Centre organizes workshops, where the instructor is a professional graphic artist. The workshops experiment with different printmaking methods - drypoint, soft base or woodcut and linocut. No previous experience is required.
Different techniques
In graphic arts, the image is first drawn or engraved as a mirror image on a plate, to which color is added. Then the image is pressed by pressing or rubbing onto paper. Several versions can be printed from the same plate.
In drypoint, the image is scratched onto an aluminum or copper plate with a sharp point. In soft-ground painting, plant parts, lace or other materials that easily leave marks can also be used. In woodcut or linocut, the plate is made of wood or linoleum, into which the image is engraved with a special engraver.
The workshop will be held at the Ratamo Art Centre (Veturitallinkatu 6), where you can also visit current exhibitions.
The graphics workshop lasts 2–3 hours depending on the chosen technique. A maximum of 12 people can participate in the workshop at a time.
Price: The price of the workshop is 300–450 € / group. The price depends on the chosen technique. The price includes artist guidance, materials, one print per participant and coffee/tea (you can supplement the service if you wish). The workshop is paid for on the day of the event at the Ratamo cash desk.
