Jyväskylä is a brilliant city with events throughout the years – including sports. Many national and international events, in addition to Secto Rally, are held in Jyväskylä. Here are some of the events. 

Secto Rally Finland 

Rally has a decades-long history in Jyväskylä and central Finland. The annual Secto Rally Finland is Jyväskylä’s most famous international sports event. Each year, almost 100,000 fans of rally arrive to Jyväskylä to see the event. Rally is heard and seen around the world. Each year, approximately 400 accredited media representatives come to the World Championship rally, over half of them from abroad. 

 

Lauri Markkanen Tournament 

Over just a few years, the Lauri Markkanen Tournament has become one of the most significant junior basketball tournaments in Finland. Over 150 junior teams from Finland and other countries participate in the tournament in Jyväskylä, Markkanen’s home city.  

The Lauri Markkanen Basketball School is a low-threshold basketball school that is available for free for all children who are interested in basketball. 

Finlandia Marathon 

Finlandia Marathon is one of the oldest international public running events in Finland (held from 1978 to 1994 and from 2007 onwards). The event has various levels from competitive series to hobbyists and series for people of specific ages. 

 

Jyväskylä Ski Marathon 

The annual Jyväskylä Ski Marathon is part of the international Euroloppet series. The event is open for everyone and the lengths of the courses are 30 kilometres and 50 kilometres.  

 

Events for juniors 

Jyväskylä is a popular city for organising junior sports tournaments. In addition to the Lauri Markkanen Tournament, the junior football Comets Cup, the HIPPO tournament for girls, HeinäCup and the floorball Talent Cup are held in Jyväskylä.  

Nordic Gravel  

Nordic Gravel Series, an international top gravel cycling event is held in Jyväskylä from 28 July to 29 July in 2023. The competition includes both local and national championship series. It is also possible to participate in the shared cycling event without competing. The event combines competition with having fun, and the programme includes interesting additional events with some local colour. 

Motonet GP 

Jyväskylä is one of the event locations of this popular athletics competition.  

Ice cross downhill world championship leg  

The Red Bull Crashed Ice competition was organised in Jyväskylä three times in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
